Domingo A.

Private tutor in Fort Myers, FL

Education

I graduated summa cum laude from Florida Gulf Coast University with a B.S. in Biology and minor in Chemistry

Experience

I have worked as a supplemental instruction leader and teaching assistant in General Chemistry I. I have also worked as a university tutor in General Chemistry I and II. During my time in undergraduate I maintained a 4.0 GPA in all of my biology and chemistry classes, including General Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I and II, Biochemistry, Bioinorganic Chemistry, Cell Biology and Genetics. Due to my previous experience, I specialize in tutoring General Chemistry I and II, particularly General Chemistry I. I have a comprehensive pool of practice problems for every topic in both subjects that I solve with students in tutoring sessions. I typically ask the student to solve the problem first, then go step-by-step with them through solving the problem on a white board to help them through the steps they did not understand. I take questions and explain as I go through the problem. I have found this to be an incredibly effective way to tutor in General Chemistry and have used it with many students. I would also like to note that I am patient. Everyone learns at their own pace and is naturally good at some things and needs to work extra hard at others. Furthermore, studying is a very personal skill that can and should be developed by students. A good tutor will help you not just with the material, but also to become a more independent learner as well.

Hobbies

I love board games with friends (my favorite is Settlers of Catan), cooking, exercising, Netflix n' chill with my SO, dungeons and dragons, occasional video games and learning in general. I am currently finishing a medical leave of absence from medical school and will be returning in January of 2021. Until then, I have plenty of time to tutor in between studying. I am also happy to give any advice regarding the premed to medical school path, as I know from first hand experience how daunting it can be. That includes everything from MCAT prep advice, the application process, MD vs. DO considerations, non traditional applicants (was one myself), etc.
